Constant Lemaître footbridge, “Pont de Sèvres district”, in Boulogne-Billancourt

The Constant Lemaître footbridge and the Georges Besse square are located in a rich and singular urban environment: on the site of the old Renault factories in Boulogne-Billancourt, between the Renault communication centre (Claude Vasconi’s “57 Métal”) to the south, the Girafe kindergarten by Raphaëlle Hondelatte and the Tour Horizons by the Atelier Jean Nouvel to the north. It is part of the articulation between the new Seguin Rives de Seine district and the Vieux Pont de Sèvres district, a district built on a suspended slab and dating from the 70’s. It is first and foremost a ramp some 90m long, which brings you from the natural ground level up to the slab level 9 metres higher. The footbridge has a span of 26m and crosses the Rue du Vieux Pont de Sèvres. In reality it is a bridge, because while it is given over principally to pedestrians and gentle means of mobility the structure is also used by fire fighting vehicles. The structure of the footbridge uses the forming capacities of the concrete and the optimisation obtained by pre-stressing to offer a variable inertia structure the hand-shaped contour of which represents the static layout of the structure.
